Intersections Between Metascience and Global Development
Abstract

Metascience has developed an extensive toolkit for identifying developing solutions to problems in research culture. However, like many movements in science, metascience is focused on how science is conducted and applied in the Global North. In this panel, we explore existing efforts to improve research cultures that are focused on science in the Global South – especially the science that is applied to improve economic development. We bring together a variety of academic and nonacademic researchers specializing in development metascience, and policy to explore the intersections between the metascience and global development movements. The panel will especially explore potential areas of cross-fertilization between metascience and global development – especially, whether metascience’s focus on open science and reproducibility can make research in global development more robust, and whether the emerging movement to ensure the recipients of aid are treated with dignity can open new vistas of study within metascience.
