Metascience 2025 Conference

The Metascience 2025 Conference, held June 30-July 2, 2025, at the University College London, brought together more than 800 participants from 65 countries for the largest global gathering of the metascience community to date. Researchers, funders, policymakers, publishers, advocates, technologists, and research leaders came together to share evidence, exchange ideas, and explore how research systems can be improved. Watch the main session recordings, along with pre-conference virtual symposia.

Building on prior Metascience gatherings, the 2025 conference reflected the growing scale and influence of research on research. Across plenaries, keynotes, parallel sessions, unconference discussions, and virtual pre-conference symposia, participants explored topics including research assessment, funding, policymaking, artificial intelligence, open knowledge infrastructures, and responsible research practices. The conference also marked the launch of the Metascience Alliance, a new effort to strengthen collaboration, community, and career pathways for metascientists around the world.

The partnering organizations for Metascience 2025 were the Center for Open Science (COS) and the Research on Research Institute (RoRI).

Metascience 2023 Conference

The Metascience 2023 Conference, held May 9-10, 2023, at the National Academy of Sciences building in Washington, DC, brought together a diverse community of researchers, reformers, funders, publishers, and other stakeholders to explore ways to improve the rigor, reproducibility, inclusivity, and impact of research. Watch the main session recordings, along with pre-conference virtual symposia.

The conference focused on the study of science, how it is conducted, and how it can be improved. As a global in-person gathering to connect the study of science across disciplines, methodologies, and regions, Metascience 2023 united communities to share ideas, evidence, and foster a culture of continuous experimentation and improvement.

The partnering organizations for Metascience 2023 were the Center for Open Science (COS), the Association for Interdisciplinary Meta-Research and Open Science (AIMOS), and the Research on Research Institute (RoRI).

Metascience 2021 Conference

The second Metascience Conference was a virtual conference that focused on “Connecting the Science of Science” and was coordinated by the Center for Open Science (COS), the Association for Interdisciplinary Meta-Research and Open Science (AIMOS), and the Research on Research Institute (RoRI).

Metascience 2019 Conference

The inaugural event was an in-person symposium at Stanford University that served as a formative meeting for metascience as a discipline.
