Dr. Luke Stoeckel directs the Mechanistic and Translational Decision Science in Aging Research Program in the Division of Behavioral and Social Research (BSR) at NIA. Dr. Stoeckel’s portfolio includes research in affective, reward/motivation, social, and decision neuroscience of aging; as well as fundamental and translational research on neuropsychological and behavioral phenotypes and mechanisms of behavior change relevant to both normal aging and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (AD/ADRD). Dr. Stoeckel has an AB in Psychology from Harvard College, PhD in Medical (Clinical) Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and he completed internship and postdoctoral training in clinical neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS). Prior to joining the NIA, he was the Director of the Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience of Obesity and Diabetes program at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Prior to joining NIH, he was the Director of Clinical Neuroscience at the MGH Center for Addiction Medicine, Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at HMS, and a Visiting Scientist at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
