Abstract The Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines are a prominent framework of open science standards for the publication of empirical research. The TOP Guidelines currently include eight modular standards, each with three levels of increasing stringency. Journals select which of the eight standards that they wish to implement and a level of implementation for each. Since their publication in Science in 2015, the TOP Guidelines have been supported by over 5,000 journals and organizations across numerous disciplines, yielding constructive feedback on how TOP could be improved. Led by members of the TOP Advisory Board, this in-person session will involve an open discussion on plans to (1) update the standards, levels, and language in the TOP Guidelines; (2) develop official tools for assessing TOP implementation in journal policies, procedures, and practices; and (3) create customized implementation guidance about TOP implementation for other institutions in the research ecosystem (e.g., universities and funders).
