Research Roadmapping: Permissionless discourse for improved foresight coordination
Abstract

Research Roadmaps are collaborative decision-making instruments that transparently outline the problem space and highlight promising routes toward the creation of public research goods with positive societal impact. These roadmaps are dynamic and allow stakeholders to visualize who’s making or funding what, why, and what’s next, accelerating science discoverability and alignment toward global optima.

Roadmapping research requires data models and backend tools and infrastructure with collaboration and interoperability features to revive the openness mindset of science, and unlock permissionless dialogue between an inclusive set of research stakeholders to share latent knowledge and find leverage points in a research network.

This talk uncovers existing efforts of knowledge synthesis and research roadmapping, and discusses how tooling and infrastructure enable their articulation, highlighting open problems and research priorities to solve scientific coordination problems.
