Emmanuel Boakye is a passionate African Open Science champion dedicated to promoting reproducible and open research practices and improving research culture across Africa. He is the founder and co-director of the African Reproducibility Network (AREN), a community-led organization with local networks (communities of practice) at 28 institutions in 15 countries led by well-trained African open science experts, and over 350 members in 30 plus countries across the 5 African regions. AREN seeks to sustainably bridge the gaps in open science advocacy and adoption in Africa through training of grassroots researchers and the establishment of grassroots-led local communities of practice at universities and research institutions. Emmanuel has worked on multiple projects and programs with several pro-Open Science organizations and initiatives locally and globally including the Association of African Universities (AAU), the Center for Open Science (COS), eLife, PREreview, ASAPbio, Reproducibility for Everyone (R4E) and FORRT. He aims to increase and support the participation and contributions of African researchers and institutions in the global discourse and push for an open research ecosystem through AREN.
